Method & Practice

The method of therapy I practice is based on Systems Theory psychology, which views an individual’s behavior and mental health in the context of the systems they are a part of—such as their family, workplace, community, and faith group.

None of us exist in a bubble. Our interactions with the people around us contribute to how we think and feel and the ways we behave. Likewise, our own behavior affects and influences the people around us.

With Systems Therapy, the goal is for us to work through the bigger picture of what’s going on in you and your partner’s lives, instead of trying to treat symptoms without addressing the root cause.

Systems Therapy can be effective in addressing a variety of challenges, including:

  • Depression

  • Alcoholism

  • Finding meaning in your relationship

  • Family dynamics issues

  • Children’s behavioral issues

  • Parenting challenges

  • Sexual issues

  • Out of control sexual behaviors

  • Mental health diagnoses (please contact me if you have questions related to specific disorders)

Couples Therapy

With regular therapy sessions we’ll work together to address the immediate challenges you’re facing. By the end of our time together, you and your partner will be equipped with the skills you need to be self-sustaining and able to resolve your issues together without the assistance of therapy.

I offer a free 15 minute phone consultation to make sure we are a good fit. The first session is 2 hours so that I can get a comprehensive sense of who you are - your history and the issues that are bringing you to therapy. Regular sessions are 60 minutes long and are scheduled once a week. We’ll continue to meet until you feel confident about handling challenges on your own. During that time we’ll get to know each other, identify your goals, work through your main issues, and make sure you’re prepared for when future issues arise.

Parenting

Do you have a child experiencing behavioral issues? Children are deeply embedded in the context of their family and their issues are typically tied to family dynamics.

During our sessions we’ll work together to uncover and address the root issues that are contributing to your child’s behavior.

The first session is 2 hours long. Regular sessions are 60 minutes long and are scheduled once a week. We’ll continue to meet until you and your child feel confident about handling challenges on your own.

Preventative Couples Therapy

If you’re not experiencing immediate difficulties but would still like to work on your relationship, I’m available to meet with you for Preventative Couples Therapy.

You’ll learn some awesome techniques that will help you communicate more effectively with each other, and we’ll go even deeper as we explore the meaning and purpose of your marriage.

Why Virtual?

All my sessions are Virtual, which means we’ll meet together online, in the comfort and privacy of your own space. I’m available morning and evenings Monday through Friday, so you can schedule the time that works best for you and your family.

Learning at home also has its benefits. Our brains are wired to recall knowledge more easily when we're in the same environment where we originally learned it. With in-home therapy you're able to practice new skills in the environment where you’ll use them the most.
